Quirin Krumbholz was born in Munich and is currently living in Vienna.
He studied at the Bauhaus University Weimar, the FH Munich and graduated from the University for Applied Arts, Studio Wolf D. Prix, in Vienna. As a Senior Associate at Coop Himmelb(l)au he was responsible for the design of several realized buildings, noticeably MOCAPE in Shenzhen and The Langham Place in Changsha. Within his profession as an architectural design consultant he recently opened Pier 22 on the Danube Island together with Mostlikely Architecture.
His artistic work emerged from a love of technological experiments, uncovering creative potentials in real world phenomena and force fields that are usually not accessible to the human sensory perception. These potentials are converted by the artist into physical transformations, moving almost like living entities with no biological basis. The applied matter - liquid and solid, shifts into miraculous patterns with an incredible amount of detail by the carefully controlled flow of forces. The displayed results are poetic and mesmerizing objects that can be watched endlessly and leave observers with an impression of wonder and quiescence.

Insights in my working philosophy
'Ethics and aesthetics are one and the same' (Wittgenstein, Tractatus: 6.421)
'Act always so as to increase the number of choices' (Heinz von Förster)
New technologies and manufacturing processes are the main resource for the progress of innovation. Those innovations can only be achieved via artistic and scientific research or experiments.
Collaboration with experts from different fields is essential for progress. Sharing knowledge among other professionals is fundamental for a common evolution.
If applied properly, all materials have the same architectural & artistic value, regardless of their commercial price. Preference is given to materials and manufacturing processes that are advantageous towards their CO2 footprint and health values, especially favoured by locally available products and craftsmanship.
Architecture, design & art are languages that can evoke emotional perceptions like harmony, creativity, happiness, beauty, poetry, complexity, humour, provocation, culture, magic, madness and many more.
